Introduction Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistans first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research, and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital has well-equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities.
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Aga Khan University, Karachi is the regional leader in establishing high quality clinical service and academic programs. The current clinical facility consists of 75 beds including Triage, Fast track area, separate Adult and Paediatric emergency sections including separate Resuscitaion rooms, Adult Resus step down unit, three bedded Cardiac emergency, an eight bedded Clinical decision unit (CDU) as well as an air born infection isolation (AIIR) room. The AKUH Emergency provides care to approximately 65,000 patients per year. Most patients require complex medical and surgical/trauma care. In addition, the Department supervises a satellite urgent care center.

The Aga Khan University Hospital invites applications for the position of Associate, Department of Emergency Medicine. Responsibilities You will be responsible for providing support to the Chair / Designee in managing the finance, administration, personnel, and logistic functions of the Department and related programs including education, training, clinical services, and innovation within or formally associated with the Department.
Moreover, you will be responsible for:
  • managing all correspondence and administrative activities on behalf of the Chair
  • supervising and coordinating the Chair’s calendar and that of the Senior Manager
  • managing monthly Financial Requests, Purchase Requisitions, and other financial requests in PeopleSoft
  • assisting the manager with departmental funds and medical college budget variance reports (BVR) and maintaining accurate records of faculty expenditures
  • preparing departmental payment reimbursements, managing petty cash, and liaising with finance-related issues
  • providing support for Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) and Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) activities, including academic sessions and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)/Basic Life Support (BLS) sessions within the department and the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME)
  • administering One45 software and providing PGME support
  • providing UGME support and managing rotations
  • assisting in the preparation of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching materials
  • facilitating official travel and providing logistical support for faculty members
  • supporting departmental and hospital committees as needed
  • supervising and managing all departmental assets
  • maintaining stationery records and supplies and ensuring proper maintenance of office equipment
  • supervising and coordinating departmental events, including circulating flyers and making logistical arrangements.
Requirements You should have:
  • a bachelors degree
  • at least 3 years of relevant experience in a recognized organization
  • ability to handle multiple tasks and perform under pressure.
  • ability to independently correspond in writing with the faculty and staff
  • proficiency in the use of computer packages e.g. MS Office
  • ability to work under pressure and periodically go beyond regular hours to meet departmental requirements.
