The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has nine community-based field sites across Pakistan (including five in Karachi) and focuses on research for the betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that caters to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.
This is a contractual position. Responsibilities You will be responsible for:
- informing and following up for screen positive babies
- receiving daily update from chemical pathology team about screen positive babies on email
- tracing their contact details and call parents to inform about the screening results and need for confirmatory testing
- following the screen positive babies’ lab results to see if parents have tested as advised and reminds them to test if they have not, once the tests are done checks the results and informs family if results are abnormal and arranges appointment for them in with relevant specialist medical team (Endocrine team, Metabolic Team)
- following up of premature babies to repeat testing when indicated, all babies who are born at less than 33 weeks of gestation collects information from laboratory and informs neonatal team to repeat test at discharge or 28 DOL
- maintaining and following the data for all indicators and presents them in Clinical NBS committee meetings & NBS advocacy Committee meetings
- filling all the screen positive patients Diagnostic Evaluation Review Form (DERF) for record keeping
- coordinating with the concerned specialist medical team (nurse, fellow, consultant) and the pathology department to arrange regular educational/awareness session for health care providers (nurses, interns, residents, fellows, and faculty) at the main campus and its outreach settings on NBS in general and on special disorders included in NBS
- coordinating with the concerned specialist medical team (nurse, fellow, consultant), and the obstetrics team (nurse, fellow, consultants) to arrange prenatal education on NBS for expectant parents in outpatient and in-patient settings
- coordinating with concerned specialist medical team (nurse, fellow, consultant) and laboratory to follow the retrieval policy for NBS + babies
- ensuring the disposition of DERF) by the concerned specialist medical team consultant
- arranging regular DERF meetings with concerned specialist medical team to identify the gaps and plan actions to fill the identified gaps to improve the NBS program
- maintaining positive IMD NBS patients’ registry with help of metabolic team
- developing NBS patient education material with the help of relevant specialist medical team
- preparing and presenting weekly project related activity reports.
- a Bachelor’s. degree in sociology or equivalent
- 01 year of experience working in the reputable Healthcare sector
- ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively
- good communication and interpersonal Skills
- resilience and ability to cope with work pressure
- willing to work in the communities/field sites
- good Computer and Report Writing Skills
