The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) operates in Pakistan under its Country Programme spanning from 2022 to 2025, which has been officially approved by the Government of Pakistan. This comprehensive programme encompasses four distinct sub-programmes aimed at addressing various aspects of crime, justice, and security within the country. Sub- Programme I -Illicit Trafficking and Border Management focuses on combating illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other forms of transnational organized crime along Pakistan\s borders. Sub- Programme II Criminal Justice and Rule of Law centers on strengthening criminal justice systems, enhancing rule of law, and promoting access to justice for all citizens. Sub- Programme III -DDR and HIV/AIDS aims to facilitate the reintegration of individuals affected by conflict and violence, including Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) initiatives, while also addressing HIV/AIDS-related issues. Sub- Programme IV- Preventing and Countering Terrorism is dedicated to countering and preventing terrorism, with a specific focus on addressing the root causes of violent extremism and fostering collaboration between government stakeholders and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
Under Sub-Programme IV, UNODC Pakistan has secured the funds from the European Union (EU) allocated towards countering violent extremism initiatives across all provinces of Pakistan. The Outcome 3, underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between government entities and CSOs in combating violent extremism.
Pakistan has demonstrated a strong commitment to collaborative Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) initiatives, with active engagement from institutions such as the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA). These joint efforts aim to address the underlying causes of violent extremism and cultivate resilient communities that reject extremist ideologies and violence.
In line with these efforts, UNODC Pakistan is currently seeking applications for the position of Coordinator CVE. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in managing a network of CSOs and government dedicated to countering violent extremism. The position entails empowering stakeholders, fostering collaboration, and cultivating resilient communities that are actively engaged in rejecting extremist ideologies and promoting peace and stability.
Description of tasks:
Under the supervision of Programme Officer, the Coordinator will perform the following tasks:
1. Event Planning and Coordination:
· Manage all aspects of event logistics including venue bookings, travel arrangements, accommodation, catering, and equipment procurement for workshops, conferences, and other related events involving government organizations, CSOs, and experts.· Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop program schedules and agendas, ensuring alignment with the objectives of countering violent extremism initiatives.
- Identify and secure necessary resources for event implementation, ensuring smooth execution and active participation from all stakeholders.
2. Communication and Outreach:
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to invite and confirm participation of relevant government agencies, CSOs, experts, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in creating communication materials such as invitations, agendas, and promotional content tailored to the diverse audience of government organizations and CSOs.
- Support in promoting events through appropriate channels to maximize participation and engagement among stakeholders from both sectors.
3. Documentation and Reporting:
- Manage event-related documents, including participant lists, briefing materials, presentations, and minutes, ensuring comprehensive documentation of all activities.
- Collaborate with the team to compile comprehensive post-event reports, capturing key outcomes, feedback, recommendations, and action plans relevant to countering violent extremism efforts involving government organizations and CSOs.
4. Event Execution and Support:
- Act as a central point of contact during events, providing effective support to participants, speakers, and facilitators from government organizations, CSOs, and expert panels.
- Proactively identify and address any logistical or organizational issues that may arise during events, ensuring seamless execution and participant satisfaction.
- Assist with registration, information provision, and overall participant experience, fostering collaboration and networking opportunities among government organizations, CSOs, and experts.
5. Collaboration and Partnership Building:
- Maintain regular communication and collaboration with government agencies, CSOs, and expert networks involved in countering violent extremism initiatives.
- Facilitate interactions and networking opportunities among participants and stakeholders from government organizations and CSOs to strengthen regional cooperation and exchange of best practices.
6. Administrative Support:
- Organize and manage meetings related to events, ensuring timely preparation and distribution of agendas and minutes to relevant government organizations, CSOs, and experts.
- Handle email communication, travel requests, and other administrative tasks related to events, maintaining efficient coordination and communication among stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and updated records of participants, budgets, and event logistics, providing necessary support for project monitoring and evaluation activities.
Competencies:
- Proven experience in project management, preferably in Countering Violent Extremism focused initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience proving understanding of countering violent extremism (CVE) strategies and community engagement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software programs.
- Fluency in English and Urdu (working knowledge of additional regional languages desirable).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to diverse settings and working styles
- Familiarity with UNODC and UN Secretariat processes and documentation would be an advantage. Previous experience working for UNODC or any other UN agency is an asset.
- Previous experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is desirable.
