The Role: A data analyst (Data Associate) in the data journalism team is responsible for understanding data and research available on S&P Capital IQ Pro and working with reporters and editors to deliver data projects in a timely, accurate, and relevant manner. The ideal candidate will have a natural interest to learn about data analysis and capital markets. This role is responsible for generating data visuals for research & analysis. If you have strong knowledge of Excel and/or Finance, you are a great fit.

The Team: You will join a small, but dynamic team in our newsroom that helps foster our goal of providing data-focused coverage across multiple sectors of the economy. We are looking for an upbeat and self-starting individual passionate about the complexities of the global economy. You will provide our discerning readership with the data analysis they need to excel at their jobs.

The Impact: Our digital newsroom is dedicated to delivering readers actionable news on financial markets around the world. You will work closely with editors and reporters focused on financial markets to conduct current events and trend analysis using our proprietary data.

Your primary responsibility will be to generate insightful data-focused visuals for recurring as well as original features and reports.
You are expected to have an increased level of engagement in brainstorming sessions and will be tasked with generating new executable ideas that highlight interesting trends in their assigned regions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will provide trend analysis using S&P-collected and third-party data
Collaborating with other teammates, reporters, and editors on data-focused coverage
Educating the broader newsroom on how to use S&Ps best in class data within day-to-day news coverage
Fact-checking data for articles
Addressing external publication-related/research queries
Working with internal partners on product improvement initiatives
Collaborating with various teams on ad-hoc projects
Articulating key energy and metals asset changes, financial and market trends; Collating data and writing data-focused articles and reports on assigned regions falls under the preview of this job

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Basic Qualifications:
Strong MS Excel skills
Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills
Highly developed analytical, research and problem-solving skills
High level of energy, unwavering attention to quality; ability to juggle multiple priorities and complete tasks autonomously
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Journalism, Data Analysis, or related disciplines
Basic knowledge in finance
Basic understanding of macroeconomics and non-financial sectors

​ Preferred Qualifications:
Internship experience in finance, accounting, or related discipline
Knowledge of data analytics (Python/SQL)
Prior knowledge of the data journalism would be an asset
Understanding of sustainability trends (environmental, social, and governance developments)
Knowledge of energy and metals and mining sectors, accounting principles and practices, financial markets or reporting of financial data.
